Alteril Review
69Does Alteril Work?
Alteril is another one of these late night ads you just can't avoid if you're watching tv at night, especially if you have satellite like DirecTV or DISH. The key ingredients in Alteril are, L-Triptophan, melatonin, and valerian. These are all natural ingredients known to help someone go to sleep, without taking any over the counter or prescription drug medications. These ingredients are actually much safer than their drug counterparts, whether prescription or non-prescription. The problem with Alteril is that the product costs about $30 a bottle after your teaser 7 day trial is over. That's a dollar a day for ingredients that cost pennies if you buy them on their own! For example, if you take Valerian (root extract) on its own, you'll get the same effects for pennies compared to the $30 a bottle Alteril is charging! A quick search on the internet and I've already found a few different name brand vitamins selling Valerian at an effective 450mg dose with 100 capsules per bottle for only $2.59! Melatonin 5mg capsules at 120 per bottle is less than $3!! These are just 2 examples! Why pay $30 a bottle when you can buy these specific ingredients for much less? Maybe people like the convenience of taking one product and are willing to pay 10 times more. During this down economy, it seems that people would rather save their money to spend on other necessities. If that's the case, I'll happily take the extra $20 you'd throw away and I'll even give you $5 cash back! Always review product labels to make sure you kno what you're buying. Don't fall for fancy advertising messages and fancy packaging like Alteril. Always do your homework (which doesn't take much time these days) so you're educated about the product you're taking. I have nothing against Alteril. As a matter of fact, I really like their commerical and packaging! I just think the markup is a little too high for a simple natural product like this. Please post your comments if you've already purchased Alteril or used any of these ingredients as a standalone.

I just purchased this product @ Wal -rt for 11.00 a box. I must admit I am a bit drowsy =).
I bought Alteril at Walmart for $14. I followed the directions and took 2 an hour before bed and really felt nothing, it took me an hour and half to finally fall asleep. The next night I felt brave and took 3 an hour before bed and I must have fell asleep in 10 minutes. I'm not saying "don't follow directions", I'm just saying what I did and what happened.
I have continuous trouble with falling asleep and staying asleep and have tried many OTC medications to help alleviate these troubles. I was really sceptical about this 'natural' sleep aid when my significant other brought it home from the dreaded Mart of Wals, but I took it anyway. I had previously tried Valerian root on its own and had bad experiences with nightmares and wakefulness after taking it, but I have to say that this one is great so far. I was wary of the Valerian in it, but after taking it I didn't feel groggy or drowsy particularly. But when I did go to bed, I fell asleep quickly and I slept like a log. I love it, personally, and have felt really rested and clear after waking.
I tried Alteril last night for the first time - I doubt I will use it again (unless I am desparate), I don't even remember going to bed - scary. I woke after 4 hours with a filthy dry taste in my mouth, worse than Benadryl. Asleep again in minutes and woke SEVEN hours later - I have been sleepy and headachy all day. It certainly works but it is worse for drowsiness than any prescription drug I have taken. Be careful if you take this.
for anyone interested my doc told me
last year when i visited him
he simply said take the store brand
aspirin or its equivlent with sleep aid,,
the bottle is about 3.00 and u fall
asleep after a short while
u wake up a little groogy and sleepy
but hey ..it works and its cheap..
While buying each ingredient individually will usually allow you to save some money, it can sometimes be difficult to first determine which of the nine listed ingredients are "non-essential", then find sources for all the remaining ingredients, then formulate your own product close enough to the original to remain effective. Take the valerian, for example. Is the cited valerian raw powder or extract? How much raw powder is required to match the amount of extract in the product? Is it possible to get the powder at this strength or will it be necessary to open capsules or split pills? Is taking higher amounts unsafe or counterproductive? Now, how much are you actually saving on this one ingredient and are the savings worth the trouble? Now follow this procedure for each and every one of the nine ingredients! Even after all this, you still have to deal with taking nine or more pills every night and keeping track of how much of each you have remaining. Then of course you may have to deal with going to more than one store to find all this stuff (how much fuel are you going to burn?) or multiple shipping charges if it's necessary to deal with more than one source. Oh, and one more thing; what appears to be the main ingredient in this product is L-tryptophan. This product can be hard to source. By and large, it seems to be offered only in 500 mg capsules, which means you're going to have to figure out how to take 1 1/3 capsules each night. And the cost for this single ingredient (not including shipping) will be 20 cents per night. So bottom line is this; personal formulation sounds great in theory, but it's not always so easy to pull off. For my money, I think going down to Wal Mart and plunking down a little under 50 cents a night sounds like a pretty good deal. Consider the savings of time, effort, and possibly money as well.
LOVE this product. I would fall asleep but not go into deep rem sleep. I have been taking this product for 2 weeks now and feel refreshed when I wake up. I am no longer tired all the time. It has been a wonderful product for me!
The side effects to taking this "natural" product are - headache, nausea, gastrointestinal distress - including very dark stools - so lest you think herbal products are completely safe, remember to treat them with the same respect you do drugs.
I love this product. I feel good taking natural supplements, and this product works better than any I've ever tried. Groggy with dry mouth? Drink more water. If dark stools are a problem, it may be your alcohol or other dietary intake. I noticed that Alteril also stimulates your body's natural ability to fall asleep. If you have a groggy day, don't take Alteril that night. You'll probably fall asleep without it. In general, I feel more relaxed, rested, and calm because of Alteril.
Had I known that the pill was Zolpidem than I wouldn't have requested my doctor refill my Zolpidem & would've just bought the Alteril instead!
I saw alteril on t.v. just like most everyone else. I thought of my husband, who never sleeps(about 1 night a week if he's luck). We have no med. ins. so I thought why not, since he has tried all over the counter meds. and they no longer work. He has taking alteril for 2 nights now and has slept! When he wakes I can tell he feels much better. So for me no matter what the cost if it works it worth it. I saw try it, if it works for you thats great, but if it don't then your not ant worse off.
Took one tablet an hour before bed- felt strange - fell asleep about an hour later and slept for 3 hours-- woke up with a raging headache -- finally fell back to sleep --woke up feeling nauseous --very dry mouth. I would not recommend this product and will never take them again.
I tried Alteril after seeing someone at Walmart pick it up. She told me it is WONDERFUL ~ so I tried it. It was not wonderful for me. I had gastrointestinal discomfort and felt jittery all night. I had a terrible night's sleep! For some people, it may work...but for those of us that it doesn't ~ it was a waste of $17.00 and the cost of a night's sleep! Be careful!!!!!!!
I tried this pill because a friend of mine suggested it, but it was not for me. I was awake every 2 hours and I had a feeling of restlessness all night. The next day my whole lower body was achey. I will go back to Simply Sleep.
Your product stinks. Literally. Are the pills supposed to smell like feet?
